Being able to unlock my Mac with TouchID is magical.
Being able to unlock my Mac with TouchID is magical.
After looking at many other apps of this kind, I found MacID and Near Lock to be currently the two winners! I tried the free versions of both and decided on MacID simply for the added features like the copy clipboard, pretty straight forward using the notification widget and was something I was looking for anyway. So just an added bonus! The app is pretty simple and straightforward itself. Hoping for a few bug fixes like the pretty off and on Bluetooth connection Ive noticed after using my phone two feet from my Mac and an added widget for MacID in the Macs Notification Center. Overall, the best yet and Ive seen the developer seems like a pretty up front and knowledgable guy with a deep passion for his app!
Don’t waste your dollar.
I expect something to popup on my watch or phone telling me I am near my locked iMac and it needs unlocking. That does not work. My mac sits there dumb as a rock waiting for me to type in my password. So, this is pointless, does nothing and it is deleted.
This is such a great app! Its one of those apps that you cant imagine not have after the fact. Its packed with plenty of cool features and could probably go for more than the current price.
This is a great idea but doesnt always work. Too many reboots or not connecting. I end up typing in my password 70% of the time. Its been uninstalled. Dont waste your money.
I tried nearlock, which did work very cleanly on the Mac, but this offered more features and worked faster for some reason. I love this. Unlocking with my Apple Watch is fast and easy.
This app works about 70-80% of the time as it should. The other 20-30% of the time the connection isnt that great or it takes so long to connect that you could have simply just typed in your password. It needs more support on the Apple Watch app for sure, it only works on there about 50% of the time. A lot of the time my Apple Watch just says, "No Mac Connected" when, in fact, my iPhone is connected. Great idea for an app, Ill use it... But for $4? Id rather have a cheeseburger and fries tbh.
Ive been using the app for a week and have to say it is one of the most useful additions to the apple experience in a long time. I can just walk close to my computer and with a simple tap unlock it. With how many times I walk away from my computer a day it not only saves time but provides a much better user experience than typing in a password.
When it works, it does what its supposed to do - unfortunately that is infrequently. Not worth the time or effort.
Im running into a bug where the stupid notifications for the mac wanting to be unlocked happens almost constantly. I let my MacBook Pro just sleep and its not trying to be unlocked. Thats really nutty! I dont know if its some other software thats interfering, like Sharemouse for controlling multiple computers with just one kb/mouse, but I wouldnt think so when Im getting notifications about it while Im not touching either computer. So I had to disable notifications completely - even on my Apple Watch. The Watch app lets me unlock or lock with my watch, and thats cool yeah. I tried controlling the music with it tho, and then it totally broke and I had to manually unlock from the MacID app on iPhone. So theres a few things to work on, but overall I think you guys get 5 stars for the overall idea and implementation. I reserve the right to change my mind however.
I have to lock my screen when away from my Mac - which has become a habit of swiping into the upper left corner to engage the screensaver, and typing my password when I return. MacID lets me automate that process by using my phone (which inconveniently grab any time Im leaving my desk). Love the auto lock and auto unlock feature (that was a deciding factor in getting this). For only $3.99 I can cut down repetitive tasks for a smoother workflow, use a stronger login password, and get a raise to pay for more cheeseburgers.
I have a long password on my Mac, and this app allows me to almost completely bypass it. The only time I have to enter it these days is after Ive restarted my Mac. Between my iPhone and my Apple Watch, the app is well-designed and very easy to use. Definitely worth the price.
Ive tried everything to reset bluetooth and start over with both apps on both devices but the iphone wont reconnect. I am not able to submit tech support email through your sight either, just FAQs only. I dont use twitter nor do i want to communicate via FB. I want my $5 back!
Update: having some issues. Some times the phone gets disconnected even though the BT is in on state, dont know why. I have to force close the app and open it again to get connected. Can you please fix this bug Thanks you so much for this amazing app. Even though i paid for it i need to say thanks
Needs bug fixes to get 5 stars. The app will send a notification to my phone and watch to unlock before I even move to unlock my MacBook. When I do want to unlock my MacBook, it sends three separate notifications to my watch for the unlock and I cant unlock until after the third notification goes off. The proximity could use some tweaking as well. Great app otherwise.
Great idea. However, the key value prop for this is productivity. Unfortunately Bluetooth is way too unstable/unpredictable a comms platform and so you lose productivity instead of gaining it. Devices lose connectivity. My laptop locks while Im using it! Trying to unlock via iPhone and Apple Watch inconsistently works. Often prompted for my fingerprint multiple times with no unlock resulting. Again, nice idea, but at the mercy of the wrong platform to realize the benefit.
Mac ID doesnt connect, until I wake mac up. when Mac in sleep mode ,Mac id loses connection. What is that?its much faster when I type my password than take a phone to press Touch ID. This app like toys for kids.
I dont know how slow a typist you have to be for this to be worthwhile, if it even works.
Do NOT use the tap to unlock feature. I was under the impression that the tap to unlock would only work if my phone was near by. This is NOT true. Big security flaw!!
